About Us

Monmouthshire Housing Association (MHA) Ltd was established on 21st January 2008. The association was established to receive the housing stock of Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) through a large scale voluntary transfer. The association is a new Industrial and Provident Society (IPS), managed by a voluntary board and an executive management team.

MHA's main purpose is to provide and manage affordable homes in Monmouthshire for people who need them and to ensure all those homes are improved to meet the Welsh Housing Quality Standard by 2012 and then maintained at that standard. The association manages and maintains around 3,600 homes and 290 leasehold properties, as well as large numbers of garages and other land around and within our estates.

The main objective for the organisation in the first 5 years is to deliver the promises outlined in the Offer Document to tenants. This document was developed by Monmouthshire County Council to enable tenants to decide to vote for or against a transfer to MHA. The offer document outlined in clear terms the additional services that tenants could receive from MHA. The document is legally binding between MHA and MCC and the majority of the promises must be delivered by 2012.

Our mission is:

To provide high quality homes and services that put people first.

Our vision for 2011/2016 is:

Is to deliver the promises detailed in the Offer Document by 2012, and to be an open, fair, flexible and achieving organisation that delivers quality services and promotes sustainable homes, jobs, services and communities.

MHA has also adopted the following themed objectives:

  • Eminent Housing Provider: MHA will provide high quality, well designed, affordable accommodation and within 5 years we iwll add 110 new units of affordable accommodation which will be a mix of rented and low cost home ownership.
  • Environmental: MHA will provide environmentally-friendly, sustainable home and services reducing our CO2 emissions by 20% by 2020 and recycling 40% of materials.
  • Economic: MHA will remain financially viable and will increase turnover through normal and diversified activities by 25% over the next 5 years as well as increasing the workforce to 250 persons.
  • Social: MHA will prioritise investment into it's communities to generate a positive return on that investment in the form of stronger, safer and healthier communities with upper-quartile levels of tenant satisfaction.

as well as the following values:

  • Open: we will act honestly and with integrity and our decisions will be made inclusively and transparently.
  • Fair: we are committed to delivering services with an even hand and ensuring equality of opportunity for everyone.
  • Flexible: we will be innovative and proactive and view change as opportunity.
  • Achieving: it will set and reach ambitious goals and targets.

Before receiving the housing stock from MCC, MHA set a number of high level objectives:
