Affordable Rural Housing
Working to Provide Rural Housing
MHA works with the Rural Housing Enabler for Monmouthshire giving support together with two other housing associations, Monmouthshire County Council and the Welsh Government.
As independent brokers, Rural Housing Enablers help establish good working relations between rural communities and housing associations, which hopefully will result in the development of much needed affordable homes for those communities, as well as providing additional community benefits.
The Rural Housing Enabler can help rural communities to develop local partnerships, identify possible development sites and assess local housing need. They offer help through the planning process to landlords and the Community Council to ensure inclusion and full participation in a transparent process.
What is Rural Housing Enablement?
The lack of affordable homes in rural communities in Wales is a major issue. People are forced to leave the place where they may have been born and brought up in. The shortage of affordable homes threatens the social and economic sustainability of many rural communities.
The Rural Housing Enabler works with communities offering independent advice and support and acting as a facilitator.
