Housing Assistants, Officers and Managers are responsible for all aspects of tenancy and estate management.
The Housing Teams ensure that rent arrears are controlled effectively, and also make sure that as many of our properties are filled as possible. When new tenants move into our properties, the Housing Team make sure that they have all of the information that they need – they also help tenants who want to move into another property.
IT Support
The IT Support Assistant is the first port of call for all staff members who have any IT related issues. The IT Assistant carries out regular maintenance to our IT systems, and monitors and maintains the health of them.
The IT Assistant also gets involved in development projects to ensure that our IT Systems are at the cutting edge of technology.
Maintenance Officer
Maintenance Officers liaise and consult with tenants on all aspects of reactive maintenance.
They inspect the properties before the work is carried out. They also inspect vacant properties before people move in, and ensure that we are able to let them.
Trades Operatives
Our Trades Operatives cover a range of professions including Carpenters, Electricians, Heating Engineers, Painters, Plumbers. They are responsible for the reaction and planned maintenance of our properties and are at the forefront of our provision of excellent customer service.
On an annual basis we recruit Apprentices into some of the above Trades. Click here for more information on our Apprenticeship Scheme.
Investing in our people
Our vision states the commitment to employing staff who are highly qualified, professional, achieving and working towards common goals.
The five year HR Strategy outlines our objectives to support this vision and, to date, a significant number of those objectives have been met.
All MHA managers have either completed or are about to commence the Chartered Management Institute Diploma in Management course.
We have created four Trainee positions throughout Housing Management and Finance Divisions to achieve either MSc in Housing or ACCA.
Five Housing Assistants are currently studying towards the Diploma in Housing via distance learning and one member of staff is currently studying towards the Chartered Institute of Marketing degree. In addition to funding college fees for Distance Learning Trainees, we also provide generous Study Leave Allowance which the trainees can use either for attending college or preparation for assignments or exams.
We are developing a recognition scheme called MAP (Monmouthshire Achievers Programme) which aims to link into Career Pathways for specific roles, and provides acknowledgement for those employees who have achieved the core requirements for their post.
Personal Development Portfolios are issued to every member of staff to assist them in the performance management process and their own development.
We are currently in the process of applying for the Investors in People award.
The HR Strategy also refers to our commitment to developing employment in the local economy. Recent advertisments for Trade Apprentices saw schools and colleges in the area involved in the recruitment process.
In the first six months of MHA's existence, £48k was spent on core training, on-going professional development and other courses.
We have developed Management and Staff Codes of Conduct. These are designed to emphasise the mutual respect and professionalism that is expected within the workplace to support the HR Strategy objectives.
