Residents at Plas Mawr sheltered housing scheme have high hopes that their corner of Usk will look blooming lovely this summer.
Each year townsfolk are involved in planting up baskets, tubs and anything that doesn’t move (and in some cases things that do!) with glorious flowers as part of Usk in Bloom.
We at MHA wanted to ensure that our tenants could participate and funded the planting of nine baskets to hang outside the windows of the communal lounge. With help from Nantyderry Garden Centre who provided and delivered the plants and baskets; volunteer dad, Josh giving his time through the Dads Can project; and resident, Olive Plas Mawr is now adorned with foliage and bright summer flowers.
Olive, who has a keen green finger quickly got stuck in, instructing Josh in choosing the best plants to match each other to provide colour and texture as well as planting up a basket or two herself.
Residents were thrilled with the colourful baskets and are looking forward to seeing them flourish in the coming weeks ahead of the Usk in Bloom judging.
Tenant board member and local resident, Zena Beirne dropped by and was thrilled and later said via her Twitter account, "It's lovely to see staff and volunteers at Monmouthshire Housing out in the community today."
