Monmouthshire Housing Association (MHA) has, once again, won a prestigious national award and this year it was for Leadership. The awards ceremony held in Cardiff City Hall was sponsored by the Wales Quality Centre which runs an annual competition for businesses across the private and public sectors in Wales.


10th Birthday for MHA's Tenant Forum

 

 

The Forum was established to pull together a formal agreement with MCC on how tenants’ should be involved in making decisions about their homes and communities and did this with the support of TPAS Cymru.

Creating a low carbon construction industry was a constant theme at the 2011 Constructing Excellence in Wales Awards in July. The 400 guests packed into the Holland House Hotel learned that Wales is at the forefront of the low carbon movement and this was further reflected in the BREEAM and Demonstration Project awards that were made during the evening.

MHA Officially Opens its Headquarters

 

On the 6th of May MHA welcomed over 100 of its partners, consultants and members of the local community to the Official Opening of its New Headquarters in Mamhilad, Monmouthshire.  The building was opened by Judith Langmead, Chair of Monmouthshire Housing, Cllr Peter Clarke Chairman of Monmouthshire County Council and Pip Williams the Chair of the Tenants Forum.


MHA is Financially Healthy

Monmouthshire Housing Association Passes Financial Health Check by Welsh Assembly Government. MHA has passed a financial health check by the Welsh Assembly Government following an inspection of its accounts.


MHA Backs Football Stars

 

Monmouthshire Housing Association (MHA) sponsored Monmouth Football Club Under 19’s £1000 for them to purchase a new football kit and additional equipment for training. The money was also used to establish a ‘boot bank’ within the club to recycle old football boots and kit which could then be used by younger children who may not be able to afford to buy their own kit.


Monmouthshire Homesearch Officially Launches

 

Monmouthshire Homesearch is a new and exciting way of finding a home in Monmouthshire. Monmouthshire Housing Association (MHA), Melin Homes, Charter Housing and Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) are working in partnership to develop a common housing policy and officially launched Monmouthshire Homesearch on the 31st March 2011 at MHA’s new head offices in Mamhilad.


MHA to the rescue of 2nd Caldicot Scouts

 

Whilst half of the country were suffering from a cold spell in January 2011, everybody turned up their heating to stay warm. However this was not the case for 2nd Caldicot Scouts as their boiler had broken down! Despite freezing conditions, all the Leaders carried on with their weekly meetings.

Over the past six weeks, I have been on a work placement with Monmouthshire Housing Association. I am now exactly halfway through and cannot stress enough how valuable this experience is.


MHA holds it's 'Forever Young Open Days'

 

During March Monmouthshire Housing Association held three ‘Forever Young Open Days’ in our sheltered schemes across the county.  The purpose was to engage with our older tenants whilst raising their awareness of the services and information available to them.  Each of the days were well attended by staff, partners and tenants and provided tenants with the opportunity to receive information as well as socialise with each other in an informal environment.

Monmouthshire Housing’s IT team has been shortlisted from almost 300 entries to the 2011 Housing Heroes Awards. These awards are in their third year and will once again showcase the people and teams that are doing exceptional work in the social/affordable housing sector.

As part of Monmouthshire Housing Association’s ‘Money Wise’ project, MHA will be working alongside the Gateway credit union, Welsh Water and Monmouthshire County Council to host a free benefits take up event entitled ‘Free Service and MOT of your Finances’

MHA opens more new homes in the heart of Llandogo

 

On Wednesday the 2nd of March Monmouthshire Housing officially opened their new homes in the village of Llandogo. Four new affordable family sized homes were built in the heart of the village by P&P Contractors from Blaenavon.

Thursday the 27th of January was a proud day for the staff at Monmouthshire Housing as it saw the official launch of their development of six new homes in Bersondy, Llanarth.


MHA celebrates more success at Wales Quality Awards!

 

Monmouthshire Housing has, once again, won a prestigious national award and this year it was for People Development. To win such an award, for the second year running, is highly unusual for such a new organisation and demonstrates Monmouthshire Housing commitment to the development of its people.


Despite the heavy snow, MHA staff work hard to ensure tenants have a Merry Christmas!

The heavy snow has not prevented tenants of MHA from receiving their usual high class maintenance and housing service. Despite the adverse weather conditions and the high number of emergencies received, we have directed our efforts into making sure our tenants stay safe and warm!


MHA Giving Back to the Young People of Monmouthshire

 

In the January edition of Community Spirit Thomas a student at Monmouth Comprehensive School became a journalist for the day and interviewed a tenant of Monmouthshire Housing to see how they stay healthy in the winter! This opportunity arose from the mentoring scheme Monmouthshire Housing take part in.

MHA has won a funding bid from the Welsh Assembly Government for £10,000. This money will be used to kick start environmental improvements on the estate.


New Repairs Hotline

 

On 6th April MHA introduced a new Freefone number for tenants' repairs reporting. The Repairs Hotline is answered by our Community Services team and is available between 8:30am and 5:00pm Monday to Thursday, and from 8:30am to 4:30pm on Fridays.

 

Repairs should no longer be reported via the One Stop Shops.
