I must admit I knew very little about the housing sector before beginning a career with MHA.  I graduated Swansea University in 2018 and like most students had no idea what career path I wanted to pursue.

I began working within the construction industry and was eventually promoted to Assistant Site Manager. Although I loved my job, I felt as though a part of me wasn’t fulfilled. I have always been passionate about social justice and I knew I wanted to help make a difference in people’s lives. Working within the housing sector has given me this purpose.

I joined MHA in 2020 as a Housing Management Trainee. Working within MHA is like being part of a family. Everyone is so kind and friendly and will go out of their way to help you if they can.

The training and experience MHA have provided me with is beyond comparable. I am currently being put through an MSc in Advanced Practice in Housing with Cardiff Metropolitan University. Further to this, I get to work in a different department every 6 months, so by the end of my Trainee position I should have valuable experience within a vast array of departments- enabling me to understand the way in which a housing association operates and how each team has a positive impact on our tenant’s lives.

Working in the housing sector is about so much more than your job role, the team you work with or the path you are on. It is about the people that call our houses a home. There are endless opportunities within the sector. If you are considering a career in housing, do it.

I don’t know what the future holds, but one thing I am sure of is a long, rewarding career within the housing sector.
