MHA achieves LGBTQ+ House Pledge Pioneer Status thumbnail

Monmouthshire Housing Association (MHA) is proud to announce that it has been officially awarded the LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge Pioneer status.

Delivered by Stonewall Housing in partnership with HouseProud, the LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge sets a national benchmark for social housing providers working to embed equality and inclusion at every level. The Pioneer status celebrates organisations that go beyond promises, demonstrating real impact through staff training, resident engagement, and inclusive policy development. The pledge recognises MHA’s commitment to creating safe, inclusive, and welcoming homes for LGBTQ+ residents.

Kate Bentley, Head of Corporate Services said…

Achieving LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge Pioneer status is a powerful affirmation of our values and the work we’ve put into building inclusive communities. From listening closely to our communities to encouraging openness in the workplace, we’re proud to create spaces where everyone feels welcome, respected and celebrated. It allows us to show how we live and breathe our commitment to inclusion through meaningful action.

We’re committed to building on this, especially through our EDI strategy. We’ll continue working closely with residents, staff and partners to strengthen our approach, embed inclusive practices across all areas of our work, and ensure that every voice is heard as we shape the future of housing together.

To achieve Pioneer status, organisations must demonstrate evidence across three key areas, examples include:

  • LGBTQ+ Resident Engagement at Strategic Level
  • Increasing LGBTQ+ Visibility
  • Staff Training and Awareness

The impact of MHA’s commitment is felt directly by residents. One resident, who supported the pledge, shared:

MHA receiving Stonewall Housing Pledge accreditation shows they are continuing to build on their stepping stones of supporting equally all their tenants and staff to be true to themselves and shine brightly as rainbows of diversity.

MHA is committed to learning and will continue to build on the feedback from the assessor, especially around resident engagement, ensuring our approach stays responsive, inclusive, and impactful. We’re proud of this achievement and look forward to sharing our journey to inspire others across the sector.
