We were delighted to welcome Monmouthshire County Council’s Leader Mary Ann Brocklesby and Chief Executive Paul Matthews to St Mary’s Place to view the innovative new technology making homes more efficient and affordable to heat in Portskewett.
Gwyndaf Tobias, MHA’s interim CEO said:
As a socially responsible housing provider we are committed to making our homes more sustainable and energy efficient.
The homes represent MHA’s second large retrofit development, creating warmer and ultimately cheaper homes to run for its residents as well as significantly enhancing the cul de sac.
The funding from Welsh Government’s Optimised Retrofit Programme has been truly transformational.
The 33 homes located on St Mary’s Place have undergone extensive improvement and environmental works including the installation of solar panels to some properties, PV battery storage, external wall installation as well as new roofs and UPVC windows and doors throughout, meaning they are more sustainable and cheaper to run for its residents.
As well as reducing their average carbon footprint, the homes had been previously rated as EPC C and D, but now have an average EPC A rating, making them amongst MHA’s most energy efficient homes.
Enhanced landscaping throughout and new raised flower beds, were delivered as part of the community benefits on the development, undertaken by green fingered MHA staff volunteers.
The improvements were delivered by principal Contractor Sureserve. The monitoring services designed to maximise building efficiency were installed by Safehouse Technologies.
The development has benefitted from £513,000 of Optimised Retrofit Project funding from Welsh Government and an investment of £285,000 from MHA.
The Leader toured the development with MCC’s Cabinet Member for Rural Affairs, Housing & Tourism; Sara Burch, Cllr Lisa Dymock; Ward Member for Portskewett and MHA’s interim Chief Executive Gwyndaf Tobias and Director of Housing Services Michele Morgan.
Monmouthshire County Council’s Leader, Cllr Mary Ann Brocklesby, said:
Thank you to MHA for inviting us down to Portskewett to see the work they’ve completed on St Mary’s Place. The improvements made here demonstrate how homes can become more energy-efficient, which in turn can help reduce household bills for residents.
