Monmouthshire Housing secures Newport affordable homes boost thumbnail

Consent to build 42 much-needed affordable homes on the popular Mon Bank development in Newport has been granted to Monmouthshire Housing Association (MHA) this month.

Planning permission has been given to develop the site northwest of the existing Mon Bank development off Cardiff Road.  The development will comprise 21 x 2 bedroom 4 person houses, 5 x 3 bedroom 5 person houses and 16 x 1 bedroom 2 person apartments, split over 2 parcels of land.

A fabric first approach has been taken to energy performance with a focus on the design and construction of the building ‘envelope.’

The homes will be constructed to the highest possible insulations standards in order to reduce the amount of energy required to heat their homes, meaning lower running costs for the residents. The homes will be fully electrified to meet the needs of both today and tomorrow

The development is within walking distance of the City Centre and is close to all local amenities, supermarkets, bus routes whilst also within easy access to junction 28 of the M4.

Gwyndaf Tobias, interim CEO, MHA said:

We are delighted to have received consent to build high-quality new homes, in this popular area of Newport.

This development represents the first development activity for MHA outside of Monmouthshire; reinforcing our commitment to playing a bigger part in increasing the provision of affordable housing across south east Wales.

We are grateful for the support and vote of confidence from Newport City Council and to the design team, who worked tirelessly to bring the development to fruition.

MHA’s design team for Mon Bank include LeTrucco Design Architecture, PHG Engineering Consultants and LRM Planning.

Councillor Saeed Adan, Newport City Council’s cabinet member for housing and planning, said:

I’m delighted that MHA have received the go-ahead for their first development in the city. Affordable, good quality homes such as these are very much welcomed.

I look forward to us continuing to work with MHA, which has an excellent reputation, in the future on similar projects. They are crucial to our commitment to ensure we can meet the demand for housing for our residents.
